A DAY OF FILMING

Today myself, Jodie, Laura and Ashley shot some of the opening shots for our horror trailer. It was important for us to use a range of shots including close ups, longs shots etc. This will make our trailer more interesting for the audience to watch.

For the start shots we decided to film out of a old house in the dark to give a creepy atmosphere to the audience. We used a range of techniques such as zooming into a particular spot of the house, this was the upstairs window. We decided to do this as is created an atmosphere and would make the audience think something was about to happen. We thought this would be very effective as it makes us think about what is going to happen throughout the trailer.

During this film session we also recorded ourselves saying dates from a diary as we want this to be played during a part of the trailer. We did this as the main theme for our trailer is a possessed diary. We made sure that the diary dates stayed within the barrier of the season we are in now. We also recorded a range of screams and creepy sounds so that it will make the audience want to go and watch the whole trailer to see what happens.

NIOMI WOLF THEORY

Naomi Wolf Theory

Naomi Wolf is considered as a American feminist that believes that the woman that are used in media products are used so that the products produced are most likely to sell more.

It is believed that she thinks females want to look like the models that are used on media products. She talks about how women compare themselves to the model that is used in a magazine and will doubt their looks in a negative was as they will aspire to be like the model.

When companies use females within their media products they will place them in a position that suggests the female sexuality, this will also help get an audiences attention. The sexuality is replaced by the beauty, this shows that the women are putting themselves in competition with other women and their bodies.

We used a female figure in our trailer.

LAURA MULVEY THEORY

Laura Mulvey Theory
'The Male Gaze'

'The male gaze' normally appears when the audience is put into the mindset of a heterosexual man. We see this when there is a focus within males eyes of  females curves. The male gaze occurs when certain conventions, for example cut to different scenes or different speeds like slow motion are used.

Laura Mulvey's theory suggests that the male gaze denies women identity, refering them to be admired for their appearances. This theory suggests that females can only see themselves from a males point of view.

The women being within a mainstream film is extremely important. It is stereotypical that the female within the film has no real importance however the importance of how the female makes the male feel is important.

Mulvey argues over the way that women are shown through men and through the 'male gaze' itself. The women begin to gaze at other women just like the male would.

USES AND GRATIFICATION

Uses and Gratification

Uses and Gratification theory is known for being one of the most powerful within movies and can relate to almost all media. The idea was first brought about McQuail Bulmer and Brown in 1972 and they identified four major elements of need which the media seek, these are Escapism and Diversion surveillance and information, personal relationships and personal identity.

Escapism and Diversity
Escapism: This allows the audience to have a chance to escape from everyday life. The audience like the idea of leaving aspects of reality and into a fantasy world.

Diversion: This may also be known as a way of escaping form their problems. Media allows the audience to focus on what they are watching instead of events that are effecting them.

Surveillance and information
Through the use of the internet, films can provide various information about the film itself for example, the characters within the film, and the stars playing the characters in the film. Surveillance is the need to know what is going on around you and makes the audience feel safer. The surveillance model can most often be related to tragedy storied that are found from places like the news.

Personal Relationship
People who enjoy horrors and spend their time watching horror trailers and films are able to discuss with other horror fans about what horror films are coming out etc. These people will share the same interest within the genre and will be able to talk about the genre itself. This obtains an opportunity for social interactivity. Media is often disbursed as a form of championship, this develops relationships with onscreen characters, how views can feel as though a relationship is being created between themselves and an on screen character.
